The Quad Appliance

This appliance is used when a patient is very crowded and the need to extract teeth can be avoided by widening the jaw. This appliance can be used either on the upper or lower arch.

What To Expect
The first week will be the hardest.

The appliance will rub the tongue in the beginning, unfortunately wax will not help with the rubbing.

Rinse with warm salt water several times a day for the first week and this will help with any sores on the tongue.

You will build up a tolerance to this appliance during the first week and then it will be smooth sailing.

You will notice an increase in saliva. This will pass after a couple of days.

Your speech may also be affected. But by either talking or reading aloud this will diminish.

The QUAD will be left in place for approximately 6 months, depending on the amount of room needed to create.

This appliance is an integral part of your treatment. It is important that you follow our guidelines for proper care. Your appliance is a sturdy instrument, but it will fail to work properly if it is continually abused or otherwise not cared for. If you keep the appliance clean and remember the kinds of food you can and cannot eat, your treatment should be smooth and trouble-free.

Please call our office should you have any questions regarding your appliance or your treatment.
